Decorative medallions, well known for adding beautiful detail to the top of a hanging light fixture, are no longer just on the ceiling. Just take a look at the creative ways people have used these decorative medal-like accents to enhance their interiors, from traditional to contemporary spaces. It seems like any flat surface can use some “medallioning.” Take a look at these photos, and see what I mean:
These medallions made up of different shapes and styles work well together because they’re united through color. They easily create a powerful backdrop without feeling cluttered because of the bright white paint. The effect is perfect for this eclectic, hip room.
We know that changing out knobs can make a piece of furniture feel completely different, and these medallion drawer pulls definitely make this dressing table unique.
This dining room is valiant in design, from the ceiling to the furnishings. The round medallions on the buffet add to the theme. Makes me think about adding some small medallions to the knobs of my own buffet!

This medallion exemplifies the statement, “Go big or go home.” It has a natural feel about it so although it is large it isn’t overpowering. How big do you think the truck was that delivered it?
I see a trend toward using medallion knobs to hold up window treatments. If it is the little details that make the biggest difference, than I think these medallions put this room over the top!
Even in a contemporary space like this, medallions spaced apart add bold interest.
Arched windows add architectural interest, but they can be your “arch” enemy when trying to fit them with drapes. Enter medallion knobs, which work really well for treatments on curved windows.
Here’s a very clever way of using medallion hardware! Adding them to an arched entry creates a glamorous statement.
Coming up with a stunning focal point for your bath tub can be tough. A custom laser jet medallion adds to the luxe feel here.
Tile medallions can be the beauty of the kitchen! This large, detailed one creates a perfect focal piece behind the stove.
This warm posh space uses a giant metal medallion as an accent floating on top of a piece of furniture. Perfect fit! And when lit, it creates a beautiful shadow.
Less is often more. This foyer does not feature paint or furnishings. The medallion inlay in this marble floor is the superstar — big and whimsical in black and white.
The rug in this indoor/outdoor space kicks up the volume with the bold medallion pattern. It really changes the look and feel of a room that has to handle the outdoor elements.
This artistic medallion is painted on cement and looks very much like marble. This must have been a creation of passion and talent.
